Garden District Flowers Inc is a locally owned full service flower shop serving the Bakersfield community since 1978. We delight in thinking outside the box… or vase to create designs using only the highest quality of hand selected flowers in adventurous color combinations and interesting materials.
We are inspired daily by the natural beauty of flowers and allowing the flowers to do what they do best, bring beauty into our lives! Inspiration is everywhere! We offer one of a kind bouquets and floral decor for any size event from small intimate gatherings to large elaborate events and grand weddings. Our shop not only offers our expertise on flowers and design, but also has a unique selection of hand picked gifts, home decor and fine candies.
Step one is scheduling your consultation so we can get to know you and your dreams for your wedding! After your initial consultation, we will work up a proposal. We work to create a custom & flexible proposal that allows for changes and collaboration throughout the planning process. A deposit is required to secure your date, though we are able to make adjustments along the way as needed. Please note that our availability is limited - we only take one wedding per date to ensure that our time and resources are exclusively yours on your big day!
No, we do not have set wedding pricing. Every wedding is custom designed for each couple - Each bride has their own individual style and their own floral "must haves" therefore no two weddings are the same! We can bring your entire look together to create the day you have been dreaming of!
Loads of factors. Seasonal availability or specialty flower requests, how lush, large, or simple you'd like your designs, if there is a time intensive installation involved, what containers do you want, is there a long distance delivery, how many tables need centerpieces or garlands, are you having cocktail tables, cake flowers, hair flowers, how large is your wedding party, who is getting personal flowers? These are just a few of the factors that make wedding costs vary widely. Each of these details is unique to your individual wedding and therefore your individual price.
With many different components, it's important for a couple to have an overall wedding budget, an understanding of what vendors they will need to contract with, and what proportion of their budget they want to allocate to each vendor based on their individual priorities.
As a wedding vendor, we don't believe it's our right to tell anyone what they should be spending on their wedding budget. Creating proposals is a time intensive task- When we ask for a budget and wishlist, it's so that we can put together realistic proposals of how to include as many of the floral features as we possibly can in the budget that you are comfortable with. Sometimes this is absolutely possible right from the start. Sometimes in order to stay within your budget, we offer alternative options because your initial vision isn't quite possible within the resources available.
If you are reaching out to a florist it should be because you like their design aesthetic, not because you are price shopping and asking every florist in the region for costs. To make sure you get the look you want for your big day, in whatever way your budget allows, make sure to be open and honest about what you're comfortable spending on florals, what your floral priorities are, and work with your florist to develop a plan that makes the most sense for your special and unique celebration.
Of course you're paying for flowers and the designer's knowledge and skill, but there's so much more that goes into every wedding, event, and design. It takes time to research and create proposals, manage client correspondence, research and source materials (this often times can mean hours of ordering from vendors, driving back and forth to wholesalers and farms, or working to forage and grow our own blooms), process flowers and foliage to prepare them for use and storage, design, packing all designs for transport, delivery, installations and set up, and for some events - room flip and strikes, followed by lots of clean up!
In addition to time and expenses, shop operations costs (the electricity for cold storage for blooms, internet, workshop space, design supplies, etc.), delivery costs (vehicles, van maintenance, gas), business fees, and website management. These are all additional expenses for every florist that are essential to the success and execution of every single event.
